Mediterranean Weather - Spanish Luxury - Canadian Hospitality!

About Us

David & Charlena are a retired native Canadian couple that raised and home-schooled 4 children of their own. While raising our family, we embraced our Canadian winters by dog sledding and offering dog sled tours to others. The family kennel consisted of up to 40 Siberian Husky dogs, all of whom were rescued. We also lived a farm life, having up to 200 farm animals at our homestead. All our farm animals were raised in their natural environments and not caged or penned. Over the years, we have been hosting children of all ages and from different cultural backgrounds. We have hosted 4+ children at a time and can accommodate for the different learning styles and strategies that parents look for in a well rounded educational program. In 2015 having 4 adult children and an empty nest, we decided to embark on a lifelong goal of travelling. We traveled the Caribbean by sailboat with our 2 youngest adult children (they decided to join the adventure) and Cedar, our hypo-allergenic Poodle before making our way to Spain, where we have decided to stay a while.

THE HOUSE

We live in a beautiful Spanish villa, located in Playa de Gandia, a mere 330 meter walk from the amazing Gandia Beach offering 15kms of beautiful Mediterranean sand and surf. We pride ourselves in providing a welcoming, clean and relaxed home, free from judgement and stereo types. Our home promotes and encourages creativity, free speech and respect of others and their beliefs. We have a private 100,000 liter swimming pool that can reach temperatures of 39 degrees during the warmer months. We have Wi-fi, English TV and movie channels, and over 10,000 movies to improve listening skills. We love to play games of all kinds and therefore have a variety of different games available to choose from. Learning is a breeze with our great media system within the house that allows us to work together as a team while we learn from each other.

THE FOOD

Included in the hosting fee, you can expect 3 balanced meals using the foods in season, picnic lunches, snacks and non-alcoholic beverages. Our evening meal is where we love to gather and talk about the day and go over the following day's itinerary.
It is not uncommon to have themed evening meals which will include the traditional music to go along with the theme. We include our guests in the menu and theme planning. We encourage our guests to get involved by helping prepare meals and snacks. If they have a favorite dish that they would like to share, we can arrange this as well.

THE LOCATION

Gandia is a fantastic, friendly, low crime city on the east coast of Spain. Its old town is home to the 15th-century Los Borja Ducal Palace. The Archaeological Museum of Gandia has prehistoric artifacts. To the west, the Monastery of Sant Jeroni de Cotalba has Moorish cloisters. Parpalló-Borrell Natural Park encompasses the Cueva del Parpalló, an Upper Paleolithic–era cave.

Gandia is conveniently close to all amenities such as, beaches, shopping centres, nature reserves, cultural and historical sites.

TRANSPORTATION

Transportation is easy and in abundance. A short 10 minute public bus will take you into the gorgeous town of Gandia. Fast trains run from Gandia to Valencia for ease of sight seeing in Valencia

Valencia Airport is a one hour drive, and Alicante Airport is about 1.5 hours. Pick up and drop off can be arranged for a fee. Pick up from Gandia Train station is included in the hosting fee.

THE ACTIVITIES

We are very flexible and always plan for the needs of the student.

We can organize a complete program including daily English and/or Spanish classes and excursions/trekking to the beach or nearby places of interest.

Activities can include swimming when in season, going to the beach, snorkeling, taking walks, crazy golf, trekking to visit caves and waterfalls, museums, photography walks.  We offer some fantastic additional day trips to Alicante or Valencia.

LESSONS

We like to make learning natural, so lessons are informal, hands on and discussion based and using many learning tools geared towards the individual's strengths. We do also have a variety of small written assignments which are designed for self discovery and evaluation. We will give constructive feedback and encourage life learning in a fun and natural way.

We have carefully calculated our charges which include accommodation, meals, snacks, beverages, laundry. Flights, local transportation, activities and spending money are NOT included
Our guests will be engaged in the learning process throughout their day. Since our philosophy encourages self thinking and an environment rich for learning through hands on and through experiences, you can expect to learn your entire visit. There’s plenty to do and we can offer our students full immersion into an English lifestyle. We believe that the best way to learn a language is to be immersed in it and practice it.

We will do everything possible to give you a memorable experience and a life learning experience.

We look forward to meeting you and sharing our two year sailing adventure and travels as well as learn about how our lives in Canada were so different. Likewise, we are excited to hear about your life adventures and goals.
